JOE (cool, but a jerk)

WELL?

SARAH (mean and sassy)

I’M AFRAID FOR THE GEEK THAT IT’S NOT ENOUGH, BABY.

EDWARD (scared and in disbelief)

BUT…. BUT THAT’S LIKE THE SAME AMOUNT THAT YOU ALWAYS GET EVERYDAY.

JOE (cool, but a jerk)

THE PRICE JUST WENT UP.

PANEL 3

Edward is shown, as well as Joe’s arm holding his shirt. Laughter is heard.

EDWARD (scared and in disbelief)

THAT’S UNFAIR!

JOE (arm only shown, cool, but a jerk)

AND IT’S MY PROBLEM BECAUSE….?

ERIC (not shown and a jerk)

IT’S PENALTY TIME, DORK!

PANEL 4

Eric and Alex, two of the three thugs, drag poor Edward away with his back in front. Mac is doing a rock the baby trick with his yo-yo

JOE (not shown)

TAKE HIM AWAY, BOYS.

ERIC (a jerk and having a good time)

WELL, EDWARD, IF YOU JUST PAID US WHAT WE WANTED THEN THIS WOULDN’T BE HAPPENING, NOW WOULD IT?

EDWARD (scared and nervous)

BUT THERE WAS NO WAY OF ME KNOWING!

MAC (a jerk and focused on the yo-yo)

WHO CARES!

PAGE 4

PANEL 1

5 minutes later, the now freed Edward and Cindy are leaning on the lockers, as the janitor, the reason why Edward is out, walks away. Edward is relieved that it’s over.

CINDY (a little cheery)

I GUESS ASKING WHY YOU LET THOSE PEOPLE DO THOSE THINGS TO YOU WOULD BE STUPID, HUH?

EDWARD (a little depressed)

I DOUBT NOT GETTING PERMISSION TO BULLY ME IS LIKELY TO STOP THEM.

PANEL 2

Cindy is still leaning on the lockers and looks at Edward’s back as he gets up and makes a fist to express his anger.

EDWARD (angry)

YOU KNOW I ONCE TOLD THE PRINCIPLE ON THEM, ABOUT THEM TAKING MONEY FROM ME AND OTHERS, AS WELL AS THE FACT THAT THEY WERE THE REASON JOHN WAS IN THE HOSPITAL, BUT HE DISMISSED IT BECAUSE JOHN WAS UNDERSTANDABLY TOO AFRAID TO SPEAK OUT.

EDWARD (angry)

LIKE HE NEEDS THAT TO KNOW THAT THOSE THUGS HAVE BEEN TERRORIZING THE SCHOOL, AND THEY GO AROUND ACTING LIKE THEY OWN THE PLACE, BECAUSE THEY KNOW THE PRINCIPLE WON’T DO ANYTHING.

EDWARD (angry)

THAT GUY JUST DOESN’T CARE.

PANEL 3

Cindy gets up from the lockers. Edward is still standing there.

CINDY (somewhat serious)

WE BETTER GET OUT OF HERE BEFORE THE JANITOR FORGETS ABOUT US BEING HERE AND WE END UP BEING LOCKED IN FOR THE WEEKEND.

PANEL 4

Edward and Cindy are shown walking away from the high school with their backpacks and it’s getting dark.

CINDY (curious)

THANKS TO MY GRADES AND THE OTHER PROGRAMS I TOOK FROM THEM DURING THE SUMMERS, MY CHANCES LOOK PRETTY GOOD.

PAGE 5

PANEL 1

Edward and Cindy are walking on a sidewalk.

CINDY (a little cheery)

I BET IT WOULD BE COOL TO BE IN OUTER SPACE, LIKE YOU WERE IN A SCI-FI MOVIE, BUT WITHOUT THE ALIENS AND LASER GUNS.

EDWARD (a little cheery)

YEAH, BUT WHAT’S COOLER THEN JUST GOING INTO SPACE IS WHAT NEIL ARMSTRONG AND EDWIN ALDRIN DID, WHICH WAS WALK ON THE MOON.

PANEL 2

Another view of Edward and Cindy. Cindy seems to like listening to Edward as if she had a crush on him.

EDWARD (dreaming)

EDWARD (not shown)

I BET IT WOULD BE SOME KIND OF WONDER THAT WOULD CONVINCE YOU WITHOUT A DOUBT THAT YOU’RE TRULY NOT ON EARTH.

PANEL 4

Somewhere else, it’s now night time and a man is walking outside. He looks like a factory worker and is smoking.

CINDY (not shown and word box)

AND OF COURSE THERE BEING NO CREEPS LIKE JOE UP THERE WOULD ALSO TELL YOU THAT.

EDWARD (not shown and word box)

I MOST DEFINITELY HAVE TO AGREE ON THAT PART.

PANEL 5

The back of the walking man is shown and he looks angry. There seems to be something in the bush that the walking man passed, but didn’t notice.

STUPID BITCH!.... KICKED ME OUT OF THE TRAILER BECAUSE SHE COULDN’T STAND THE SIGHT OF ME! “AND IT HAPPENS TO BE MY TRAILER!!!”

PAGE 6

SARAH (mean and sassy)

IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE IF WE GOT MORE SPENDING MONEY FROM THOSE DORKS FROM THE SCHOOL, THEN WE COULD REALLY PARTY THIS WEEKEND.

JOE (cool, but a jerk)

DON’T WORRY, BABE, I’LL HAVE THOSE LOSERS POUR OUT MORE OF THE DOUGH NEXT WEEK, SO WE CAN “REALLY” PARTY UNTIL WE PUKE AND PASS OUT.

PANEL 2

A sheriff police car pulls over to the gang.

JOE (not shown)

WELL LOOKY HERE. SOMEONE’S HONORING US WITH HIS PRESENCE.

ERIC (not shown)

PANEL 3

The sheriff gets out of the car and is revealed to be a black man who’s a little overweight and in his fifties.

JOE (cool, but a jerk)

NO, BUT I’M SURE WE WILL SINCE YOU’RE GOING TO TELL US ABOUT IT.

PANEL 5

Another view of Joe and the sheriff.

SHERIFF (in charge and annoyed)

IT WAS BROKEN IN, AND NOT ONLY WAS ANYTHING OF VALUE TAKEN, BUT THE PLACE WAS TRASHED.

THAT’S THE EIGHTH ONE WITH A SIMILAR MEMO THIS MONTH.

JOE (cool, but a jerk)

AND YOU THINK WE DID IT, RIGHT?

PANEL 1

A closer look at the sheriff who’s pointing his finger.

SHERIFF (in charge and annoyed)

LIKE AN ARMY OF BARNEYS THEY ARE.

PANEL 4

Edward and Cindy wave good-bye to each other, because of where they each live.

CINDY (a little cheery)

SO, WILL YOU BE AT MY PARENTS’ DINER FOR BREAKFAST TOMORROW?

EDWARD (a little cheery)

SURE, SINCE MY PARENTS WERE NEVER BIG ON BREAKFAST, ESPECIALLY ON WEEKENDS.

CINDY (a little cheery)

WELL, IF I DON’T MEET YOU THERE, THEN IT MEANS I OVERSLEPT BECAUSE IT’S SATURDAY, SO I’LL SEE YOU MONDAY.

PANEL 5
